Denver, Colo. November 13, 2005 -- Edwin Davenport, an Army
veteran from Tucson, Arizona, is in Denver, Colorado this week to exhibit his
award-winning artwork at the 2005 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival.
The Festival culminates a year-long fine arts talent competition in art, music,
drama, dance and creative writing. The program IS open to all veterans who
receive care at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities. The
talented veterans invited to the Festival are all First, Second or Third place
winners, selected this year from more than 2,500 entries in nearly 150 different
categories.
Ed Davenport won first place in the national art competition in the sculpture
category. Davenport's piece, entitled “Initiation" depicts an ancient symbol
representing rebirth and spiritual growth.
Although largely self-taught, Davenport has studied at various locations
throughout the United States and Mexico. He has carved wood for more than 30
years, and began carving stone and having his pieces bronzed about 15 years ago.
Also a musician, he has played the bass fiddle and sung with bands in Tucson for
30 years. To view more of Davenport's sculptures, visit his web site at
